Family Horse Ranch donates three stalls and pasture to horses in need of rescue. Volunteers and concerned individuals like yourself donate items like food and tack as well as time. In many cases a rescue can make a complete recovery just with the right nutrition and handling.
UPDATE on Sky's Progress
Sky The Tennessee Walker
So many horses so many stories. Sky is a majestic horse with so much to give. The funny thing is you would think this Tennessee Walker would just give up on life and people. From what we gathered this horse was once a great and loving animal that only wanted to please his master. Then something bad happened his barn collapsed on top of him during hurricane Katrina. This is where he was stranded for three weeks with no food only standing water. Once the area was opened so clean up efforts could start they found him under all of the barn rubble. Needless to say the poor boy was traumatized and injured by this event and would need countless hours of rehab. Now you think that is bad, it is nothing compared to what happened next. Well the horse was sold to another person that we will leave nameless. Who everyone said was a very kind man. Well this kind man decided he would shoot all of his horses ten of them to be exact. They all died accept Sky. He was shot in the chest and was left to die. Thank god that this did no go unnoticed and the horse was yet again rescued. The sad events that happened to this horse would make the strongest of people simply give up on life, people, and hope. Bonnie a sweet lady and her family in North Jax took this horse in and gave it love and care and everything that he needed to build trust with people again. Bonnie asked us if we would be willing to add him to our program here at FHRR and after meeting Ski we could not say anything but absolutely. He does need some medical attention to help with some issues with his back and we are hoping that our extended horse ranch family will help us care for this Beautiful Loving Creature. I look forward to see this young gelding gain the trust of people and learn to become the Majestic Horse that he truly is. If you would like to help us with Sky's rehabilitation please contact us today. You can help with time or even with just donating hay or feed. We are not to proud to accept your help.
This is Casanova he has been passed from one home to the next and as you can see he was very undernourished with every bone in his body showing. Just to give you an idea of his last home they thought he was fit to ride. He has a very bad sway back and his feet are very bad. He is in his mid twenties. So off of the cheap nasty filler foods and on to Seminal Senior Wellness supplemented with Rice Brand to also help him increase his weight. When Casanova arrived he was a very sad horse with no will. He would just stand in a pasture without moving. You could tell that he was suffering from depression badly among other things. He has been wormed and given his shots, the farrier has been working on him regularly to get his feet right. He now has started acting like he is a horse again. He is happy to be around people and loves to walk and graze. His coat is very shiny and he has added a good 120 lbs. Since his rescue. He is still not ridable but in the next five weeks his hoofs will be at a condition that we can actually put corrective shoes on his front feet to give him some support and help remove the tenderness of his souls. We will be posting some new pictures of him in the weeks to come so you can follow his recovery and transformation.
If you would like to help with Casanova's rehabilitation please do not hesitate to contact us at Family Horse Ranch. He will be needing shoes for his front feet at the end of May that will run $80.00 You can make a difference with a simple bail of hay. One bag of food will feed this big boy for five days.
